| A local group is the "Black
Hills 4
Wheelers" They are a special group of 4x4 Offroader enthusiasts
who enjoy responsible 4-wheeling. They do just about anything and
everything that can involve a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Among other things,
They trail ride and camp; have monthly meetings with programs relating to
4-wheeling; we do community and Forest Service work projects; assist
Pennington County as Search & Rescue volunteers; and publish a monthly
news letter... The Back Country Times. Every year they host the greatest
4-Wheeling Extravaganza called the Dakota Territory Challenge. It is held
over the Labor Day weekend and typically draws 100+
4-wheelers from 15-20 states and Canada. The Dakota Territory Challenge is
their fund raiser and use the money raised from the Challenge to do Forest
Service work projects and also donate money each year to other local
organizations. They are a member of the United Four Wheel Drive
Associations and promote responsible 4-wheeling. They are on the
Board of Directors of the Black Hills Regional Multiple Use Coalition, an
organization concerned with preserving public lands for multiple uses.
They are also involved with the Resource Advisory Council (RAC) in our area.
They have our own Land Use Chairman to keep in touch with the Forest Service
on issues affecting 4-wheeling in the Black Hills and National
Grasslands. They are extremely concerned with road closures,
wilderness proposals, and other issues that adversely impact 4-wheeling. |
